Girls can get involved in anything from adventure sports to performing arts, travel and taking part in community action projects.<\/p>\n<h2>Programme<\/h2>\n<p>The Guide programme is structured to enable Guides to participate in activities in five zones. A Leader should ensure that all programme zones are covered over a period of time.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, Patrols will use a number of activities from a\u00a0<em>Go For It!<\/em>\u00a0pack for each zone and work their way through these. From time to time, the Leader may spot an opportunity to extend the programme or to help the Guides gain more from an activity by using her own knowledge and expertise.<\/p>\n<p>The five programme zones are detailed below:<\/p>\n<h4>Healthy lifestyles<\/h4>\n<p>To encourage in Guides a healthy lifestyle by promoting physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Areas covered could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>body image<\/li>\n<li>healthy eating<\/li>\n<li>exercise<\/li>\n<li>smoking<\/li>\n<li>drug awareness<\/li>\n<li>mental health issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Global awareness<\/h4>\n<p>To increase awareness of global issues and of the contribution each Guide can make. Areas covered could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>travel<\/li>\n<li>refugees<\/li>\n<li>the environment<\/li>\n<li>citizenship<\/li>\n<li>development education<\/li>\n<li>world issues<\/li>\n<li>international activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Skills and relationships<\/h4>\n<p>To develop Guides\u2019 self-confidence and self-worth and to improve their interpersonal and life skills. Topics covered could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>communication skills<\/li>\n<li>conflict resolution<\/li>\n<li>rights and responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>faith and personal values<\/li>\n<li>teamwork<\/li>\n<li>self-reliance<\/li>\n<li>self-esteem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Celebrating diversity<\/h4>\n<p>To promote active citizenship in Guides and to develop their awareness of rights and responsibilities for all. Topics covered could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>discrimination<\/li>\n<li>community action<\/li>\n<li>cross-community links<\/li>\n<li>disability awareness<\/li>\n<li>gender stereotypes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Discovery<\/h4>\n<p>To challenge Guides with new experiences and adventure.
